Why Do We Do This?
Why don't we read the Constitution on the day that it is supposed to be read, Constitution Day, September 17th?
We considered Constitution Day, but the university is not in session then and the campus is nearly deserted. So, the UW Libraries staged its first Constitution reading in October 2006. We were inspired and excited by the energy of the event, with participants vowing to read the Constitution every year. Since then, we have held readings every autumn quarter.
