Electronic Books: How do I find online books available through the UW Libraries?
Are you looking for online books for your research? The UW Libraries provides access to online books across a wide range of disciplines. You can view these books from your home computer or any computer with internet access, using your UWNetID and password. Let's look at how to search for online books held by the UW Libraries.
To get started, go to the libraries home page at www.lib.washington.edu and click on UW –only Catalog. From the Catalog page, click on Advanced Search.
Here, I’ll search for books that deal with computer network security. After typing in your keyword, author or title, select Electronic Resources beside Location and click Submit.
If you’re off campus, you’ll first need to click on the off-campus access login box in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Here you’ll log in with your UW NetID and password.
You’ll see a list of e-books that match your search. Click on a title that you’d like to view. To view the title, click “Connect to this Title online.” Depending on who provides the e-book to the UW Libraries, how you are able to view and the online book may be different. Some e-books allow a limited number of users to virtually “check out” each book.
To see a list of all of our ebook packages, click on “More” under “Find It” on the Libraries home page. And then select E-Books. Some ebooks, such as those provided by NetLibrary, require you to set up a personal account in order to view them.
Remember, if you have any questions locating an e-book, click on “Ask Us” from the UW Libraries homepage to contact a librarian.
