How do I use Google Scholar to search for UW materials?
You can set up Google Scholar to locate full-text online articles available to you through the UW Libraries.
First, open your browser to Google Scholar at scholar.google.com
To the right of the search box find the link to “Scholar Preferences” and click on it.
Scroll down to the section of the page called “Library Links,” In the box, type “University of Washington”. Then click on “Find Library.”
Google will return a list of libraries. Put a check in the box next to “University of Washington Libraries – Find UW Holdings”, and check Next.
Scroll back up to the top of the page, and click “Save Preferences”.
Now your Google Scholar searches will tell you whether or not an article is held by UW Libraries.
For example, I am searching for publications by Gina Neff.
In the set of returned results you’ll now see links to “Find UW Holdings” beside citations. You can click on these citations to get to articles availble to you full text through the UW Libraries.
In this example, the full text of the article is available from Sage Publications.
Remember, if you’re off campus, you’ll first need to be logged in with your UWNetID and password to the proxy server to view the fulltext article.
You can often view a pdf copy on the website.
Rembember, if you have any questions locating your fulltext journal article, click on “Ask Us” from the UW Libraries homepage to contact a librarian.
