Llory Wilson

American choreographer and performer

Llory Wilson made her first mark in Seattle as a performer and teacher with the Bill Evans Dance Company in the early '80s. In 1984, she founded her own company, Llory Wilson & Dancers/Tallulah Dance Company. For ten years, Wilson was a National Endowment for the Arts Choreographic Fellow, and has received numerous other grants and awards including honors from the Seattle Arts Commission, Washington Arts Commission, Dance Theatre Workshop, National Performance Network, Austin Dance Umbrella, and On the Boards, among others. The second and third sections of Davenport Memoirs were first choreographed on Seattle veteran artists, Gail Heilbron and Jesse Jaramillo in 1982. While on the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin from 1992 to 1995, Wilson added the first section in response to the relationship of the two dancers who were then learning the dance. A "dancer's choreographer," Wilson is known for her sensitivity to the physical and emotional voices of those upon whom she is creating.
